marché de Noel

The snow is falling, department stores windows decorated and the fairy lights are up, Christmas is almost here! Trading the famous Christmas markets in Lille for a weekend trip to Luxembourg with the Bulgarians meant Anneliese and I were still dying for a dose of Northern Hemisphere Christmas markets.

LUCKILY, the Paris Mayor decided to set some up on the Champs-Elysées, so on Sunday afternoon we rounded up the troops and off we went in search of vin chaud (mulled wine)

It didn’t take too long to see all the stalls, it was nice but rather repetitive, lots of knick knacks, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and gingerbread. Afterwards, as the sun began to set and the sky darkened (now at about 5:30pm) we decided to climb up the Arc de Triomphe to look down up the Christmas lights. It was magical!

Apologies for the terrible night time photography, it appears my camera cannot handle it.

Afterwards we hit the cinemas and finally saw the latest installment of ‘Arry Potteur (Harry Potter, for all those who don’t speak French). It was rather amusing watching it in a packed cinema with French subtitles as ‘wand’ in French translates to magic baguette, I kid you not….oh the French!
